Welcome to our Summer Edition of the 2014 Skin Care Plan.

  • With increased sun exposure, your skin usually tans no matter how much SPF you put on.  Certain treatments should be postponed until fall, and others should start now! Sclerotherapy and lasers are mostly off limits for the summer months, but vacation days are a great way to fit in a little downtime if you are worried about bruising and swelling from fillers.
  • As always, your skin care is a year round process, but your summer routine may need a little adjustment to allow for humidity. Lighter serum and gel products are recommended. Since there is added moisture in the air you won’t need heavy moisturizing creams.

  • Sunscreen
  • Acne
    • Try 1-3 monthly salicylic acid chemical peels to unclog pores and brighten skin. OC-8 is a great daily product to combat oily shine.
  • Early Wrinkles
    • Ignore the myth that you can’t use retinols in the summer. Contrary to popular belief, it is safe to use retinol in the summer. The air contains more moisture, and because your skin is so hydrated, it causes less flaking. You’re skin can be more sensitive to the sun when using a retinol but as long as you’re using an SPF 30+ the benefits are well worth it!
  • Vitamin C
    • Vitamin C has many cancer and age reducing benefits, and the sooner you start the better! It naturally prevents photo(sun) damage, stimulates collagen, and reduces redness.

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles at Rest
    • Botox should be scheduled. It is by far the best possible treatment to reverse and prevent wrinkles from getting worse. Botox should be done every 3-4 months all year long, so if you are following our 2014 Skin Care Planner it is time to get botox again!
    •  It may also be time to start injectable fillers to replace lost volume; they are typically done 1-2 times a year. Since lasers cannot be done in the summer, it is a great time to start/ maintain your filler treatments! We are loving our newest filler, Voluma, that lasts up to 2 years.
  • Skin Tightening
    • If your issue is loose skin from aging, pregnancy, or weight loss Exilis Skin Tightening should be started now. Schedule 3-5 treatments 1-2 weeks apart and see skin tightening in 2-3 months. This device is radio frequency and doesn’t affect the melanin in the skin so you can be in the sun with zero risk post treatment.
  • Lumiere Eye Cream
    • Now is a great time to incorporate and eye cream into your regimen. Neocutis Lumiere helps to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, firm and hydrate, deflate puffiness, and reduce the appearance of under eye circles.

  • Dulling of Skin Tone
    • Clear and Brilliant is a laser treatment that stimulates collagen and brightens the skin. It requires little to no downtime and can be done in the summer. Schedule 1-4 treatments 3-4 weeks apart.
  • Body Products
    • SkinCeuticals offers two great body products that help diminish the appearance of cellulite and exfoliate dry dull looking skin.  Their Retexturing Cream promotes exfoliation and provides simultaneous hydration for optimized cellular renewal to retexture rough body surfaces and significantly improve radiance and smoothness. The Body Tightening Concentrate is formulated for loose, sagging skin on gravity-fighting body zones including the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, knees and upper arms, this cooling fluid reinflates and supports skin’s structure resulting in a smooth, tight surface. You can purchase both items at our office.
  • Wrinkles
    • Botox should be scheduled every 3 months all year long, so it is time to have another treatment. This is also a great time to start fillers since you cannot do any deep wrinkle laser options this time of year. Injectable fillers replace lost volume and help to smooth out wrinkles; they should be done 1-2 times a year and depending on the product lasts 6-24 months.
  • Skin Lightening Cream with Retinol
    • Fade brown and build collagen with this 2 in 1 product. Help maintain your laser treatments and prevent brown pigment from returning over the summer months.

  • Deep Wrinkles and Folds
    • Filler should be scheduled 1-2 times a year for volume loss, and depending on the product lasts 6-24 months.
  • Creased Lines Around the Mouth
    • Belotero is an injectable filler specifically for fine lines and creases. It should be done every 6 months to fill the creased lines around the mouth.
  • Thinning Eyelashes-Start Latisse
    • Latisse is a solution you apply to your eyelashes like eyeliner and it makes your natural eyelashes grow longer, darker, and thicker. It takes 8-16 weeks for final results. So start now and have beautiful lashes for the fall!
