It can be confusing on when to apply all the products in your skin care regimen. We frequently get asked, “When do I use that?”  Here are some general guidelines that you can follow to maximize the benefits of everyday skin care products.

Lightest to Heaviest Consistency

A good rule of thumb is to use the lighter consistency products first, items that say “serum” or “gel.” It is hard for a serum or gel product to penetrate a heavy moisturizer, meaning it is not absorbing into the skin and you’re not getting the maximum benefit. An ideal morning regimen would be: Cleanse, antioxidant serum, moisturizer, SPF, makeup.

Protect Your Skin in the Morning

Antioxidants protect your skin from free radicals(sun, smoke, smog) which you are more likely to be exposed to during the day. To properly protect your skin and reduce free radical damage antioxidants should be applied in the morning followed by a sunscreen.

Repair Your Skin in the Evening

Your skin repairs itself 30% more while you sleep than waking hours. To maximize the benefits from products that repair the skin, apply at night. These products could include retinols, peptides, AHA’s, moisturizers, etc.

We offer complimentary skin care consultations with our Aestheticians  to provide customized skin care regimens.
