Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hairs are hairs that have grown back into the skin instead of away from the skin. The skin sees the hair as an intruder and reacts causing inflammation and sometimes infection. Ingrown hairs usually appear after shaving, tweezing, or waxing and are more common when the hair is curly or course.
Treatment Options for Ingrown Hairs
Treatment for ingrown hairs begins with proper removal of the hair itself. Laser Hair Removal is the most effective method of preventing hair growth. Common areas for treatment with Laser Hair Removal are the legs, bikini area, underarms, neck, and chin. This treatment is not covered by insurance.
Hirsutism
Hirsutism is the overproduction of hair growth. In women, this most often occurs on the face, chin and/or neck but can also occur on the arms or torso. In men, hirsutism generally occurs on the chest and/or back. It can be hereditary or caused by illness or hormonal imbalance.
Treatment Options for Hirsutism
Treatment for hirsutism may include topical therapies, oral medications, or Laser Hair Removal treatments to reduce the amount of hair growth. At this time there is no insurance coverage for laser treatments for hirsutism. Dr. Hooper and Dr. Jackson will diagnose and determine the best treatment options for you.
