Understanding Injectable Fillers
Understanding Injectable Fillers
Loss of facial volume is part of the natural aging process. Injectable fillers work by replacing lost volume and stimulating collagen growth to achieve a natural, youthful appearance. There are a variety of hyaluronic acid and biostimulatory fillers available at Audubon Dermatology. Dr. Hooper and Dr. Jackson are expert injectors, frequently attending national and international meetings, and training colleagues around the country. Dr. Hooper and Dr. Jackson will perform a thorough assessment of your facial anatomy and decide which filler or combination of fillers is best for you.

Am I a candidate for filler injections?
The primary consideration for treatment is the characteristics of your anti-aging needs. Dr. Hooper or Dr. Jackson will perform a detailed analysis of your anatomy and determine if filler is the best treatment for you.
How are filler injections performed?
We apply a topical numbing agent 20-30 minutes before injections to ensure the most comfortable experience for our patients. Most fillers also contain a premixed local anesthetic, increasing comfort during injection. Fillers are pre-loaded in a sterile syringe and expertly injected by Dr. Hooper or Dr. Jackson.
What is recovery like after filler injections?
You may or may not experience mild redness, tenderness or bruising after filler treatment. We recommend stopping any blood thinners not prescribed by a physician for 1-2 weeks before filler injections to prevent the risk of bruising. Examples of these are Aspirin, NSAIDS like Advil (Ibuprofen) or Aleve (Naproxen Sodium), Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ginkgo, Green Tea, Garlic, Ginseng, St John’s Wort, and alcoholic beverages.
How long does filler last?
Fillers can last anywhere from several months to several years depending on the consistency of the product, location of injection, and the individual’s ability to metabolize the product.
